Features & Facilities

Recently renovated to an exceptional standard, the cottage sleeps up to four in three bedrooms (see below). The master bedroom has a king-sized bed with a memory foam mattress and an ensuite shower room. There are two further (small) bedrooms with double beds, one with a single bunk over. The cottage has a fully equipped, modern kitchen with AEG appliances, washing machine, microwave, oven, hob, Nespresso machine etc and a kitchen table seating 4/5. There is a separate bathroom with a small bath, power shower, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. On the lower ground floor there is a large lounge with a 42” smart TV (with Freesat), bluetooth radio and a cozy woodburner. If you wish to use the woodburner, please bring your own logs/kindling or purchase locally.

To the rear there is a small terrace and garden with picnic chairs/table with views over the harbour.

Please note :

  • Being an old fisherman’s cottage the house has a narrow central stairwell and is laid out on three levels. There are no stair gates. For this reason, ‘Waves’ is not really suitable for very young children or the elderly/infirm unless they can manage stairs easily.
  • ‘Waves’ is part of a terrace of three properties. You will have the entire house and garden to yourselves, but you may have near neighbours, especially in high season.

Are dogs permitted? Sorry, no. Due to the compact size of the cottage, high quality furnishings and waterside location, Waves is not suitable for dogs.

During your stay, please respect the following house rules :

  1. No outside shoes in the house please.
  2. Due to the compact size of the house, high quality furniture and seaside environment, No dogs are permitted unfortunately.
  3. Never take the house key away with you. Too many keys have been lost on walks, so please put the key in the keysafe whenever you go out.
  4. Access to the rear garden is through the house in most circumstances. From the rear garden there is right of access across our next door neighbour’s terrace to a side path. Please respect their privacy and only use this route if you need to take wet/muddy/sandy or large items (eg paddleboards) into the back garden.

Generally : There is no large sandy beach in Polruan and the village is quiet and rather quaint compared to the bustling Fowey across the water. Most people who stay in Polruan tend to stay locally rather than use it as a base to explore wider Cornwall. The single road in and out of the village can be very busy in summer. There are beautiful coastal walks and coves, pretty villages, good pubs and Fowey to explore right from the doorstep so the best strategy is to keep car use to a minimum and not plan on mega days to the north Cornish coast every day.

In terms of the house : Remember when packing that all your stuff will need to be trundled up and down from the car park. We suggest you don’t go overboard with your packing, also because there is relatively limited storage facilities in the house.

All bedlinen, tea towels and towels are provided for use in the cottage, but please bring your own beach towels.

You can buy food locally. The village has two good pubs only a couple of minutes’ walk from the cottage, a coffee/sandwich takeaway, a local baker, a small local supermarket and a post office. There are more ‘shushi’ clothes/art/artefacts/gift shops in Fowey as well as a larger supermarket (still quite small), good restaurants and take aways. The ferry between Polruan and Fowey runs all year round. Times vary but from 1st May to 30th September, the ferry runs 07.00 until 21.00 (Monday to Thursday) and 07.00 until 23.00 Friday and Saturday . Outside these months the ferry generally stops at 19.00hrs. Details of exact times and prices can be found here http://www.ctomsandson.co.uk/polruan-ferry/

There are no outdoor shoes inside so bring indoor shoes/slippers if you wish.

Waves is an old fisherman’s cottage on three floors. It is quaint but compact and the internal staircases are narrow and steep. They are not especially suited for the elderly, infirm or young children. We have installed LED nightlights to illuminate the stairs at night, but still, please take care when climbing or descending the stairs, especially at night.

All the beds have mattress and pillow protectors. If you have a small child, a pop up travel cot can be arranged. Please let us know in advance..

The kitchen will have a basic supply of condiments, tea, sugar and instant coffee, salt, pepper and olive oil.

Hanging space is limited. There are hanging hooks on the backs of all the bedroom doors with coathangers.
There are a selection of games and playing cards in the lounge, but bring your own if you like as pieces do go missing.

You are welcome to use the woodburning stove. We do not provide logs but these can normally be purchased from The Lugger Inn in the village or our housekeeper can arrange delivery for you. Please bring your own firelighters.

You will need to sort your rubbish and recycling in line with the instructions given in the house into the bins in the back garden (rubbish day is normally Monday) but the rubbish bins will be emptied and taken away for you.

Music and TV
The cottage has a Bluetooth radio and smart TV. Remember to bring your Netflix/Amazon/iplayer passwords.

Telephone and wifi
Network signal is generally good (4G) depending on what provider you are with. The cottage has a good internet speed, around 50mbps download speed. Wi fi code is provided in the kitchen.
